Sapna Choudhary was charged with cheating, fraud and breach of trust for scamming people in 2018
Haryanvi dancer Sapna Choudhary and four others were charged in connection to a cheating case from 2018. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Shantanu Tyagi, from a court in Lucknow, has charged them under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 406 and 420. If reports from PTI are to be believed, besides Sapna, the other other accused are Junaid Ahmed, Ivad Ali, Amit Pandey and Ratnakar Upadhyay, all of whom were present in court during the hearing. The next hearing for the case is on December 12.
The FIR was filed by sub-inspector Firoz Khan with the Aashiyana police station on October 14, 2018. As per the reports, a dance programme was held by Sapna and other performers on October 13 from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thousands of people had purchased the tickets at a rate of Rs. 300 per person. For the unversed, this is not the first time the dancer has been accused of cheating and breach of trust. In 2021, a case was registered by a celebrity management company that was managing her. The company had filed a complaint against her and several others for criminal breach of trust, criminal conspiracy, cheating, and misappropriation of funds. As per the FIR, Sapna had broken an artist management agreement. It was claimed that she undertook business activities against the terms of the contract.
